The pump is used to move liquids from one place to another. Some pumps use suction to "lift" liquid up into the pump, others use pressure to push the liquid through the pump. A pump does work on a fluid by pushing it from its high point (source) to a lower point (sink), and so gain energy. This energy can be used to do other tasks, like move drills at oil wells or push air in balloons.

It is formed with a raised forging on all welded joints to minimise fluid passage restriction and to increase strength.
